About Event:

There is a growing demand for industrial products with increased number of functions and of reduced dimensions. Micro-machining is the most basic technology for the production of such miniature parts and components. Micro machining is dened as the ability to produce features with the dimensions from 1 m to 999 m or when the volume of the material removed is at the micro level. Micro-machining techniques have been developed on the basis of the microelectronic fabrication technology. In order to understand the physics and chemistry of micro-machining thoroughly, one needs to have a reasonable knowledge of microelectronic fabrication. The purpose of this short term course is to provide an overview of micro-machining and to provide a conceptual understanding of micro-machining. The demanding applications listed as electronics, optics, medical, avionics and automation of industries. Further, micro-scale fuel cells, uidic micro-chemical pumps, valves, uidic systems, micro holes, micro nozzles for high temperature jets, micro dies, etc. Some materials like stainless steel, titanium, brass, aluminum, platinum, iridium, polymers, and ceramics require tight tolerances as functional requirements. This short term course aimed at meeting these key issues related to miniaturization of products and manufacturing the same. This course further focuses on conventional processes as well as topnotch advanced micro-machining processes, water laser assisted micro etching and micro-texturing, diamond tur ning technology, FIB machining, thermo-electric machining process, abrasive based nano nishing processes. It also takes into account micro and nano metrology systems.
