A smart grid is an evolved grid system that manages electricity demand in a sustainable, reliable and economic manner, built on advanced infrastructure and tuned to facilitate the integration of all involved. A smart grid employs digital equipment to create two-way communication between consumers and their utility provider. Smart grids provide more efficient transmission of energy and integrate consumer operated power sources. Smart grids also provide faster relief from power outages.
